A Hug is All You Need

Do you ever have those days/weeks/months, where things just seem, off?  You just walk through the days thinking, "what is going on??" Everything is so overwhelming. There are so many things going on at once and you can't stop to take a breath. You think about yesterday, today, and tomorrow.... and wonder, "where is this all going?"  "what is the purpose?" "What am I doing here?"

Life, to me, seems like one big movie.  You have the good days, the bad days, the endless trials... tears, joy, anger. All of it.... it all runs into each other. Sometimes that's how I make it through the day.... just thinking about it as a movie. There are always so many highs and lows, so many "tests", so much confusion. However, there is also happiness beyond measurement. You just have to seek it out. You have to focus on it. You HAVE to release the negative, although that's something I am working on myself. This task alone, seems impossible.

Some days just seem like an endless battle against life. Of course, this is no way to look at it...since you will never get this day back again. So what can we do?

I don't think there is one particular answer for this.... but a hug might help!

Beach Bash 2013

This past weekend, we planned a little beach outing with our siblings, nephews, and nieces. I, of course, had to take a lot of photos because I am obsessed. Plus, you really can't get any cuter models than what I had!

Here they are:

Newborn Photoshoot

A dear friend of mine and I have been planning newborn photos for awhile. Despite my lack of preparation/props/fun things like that, I thought they turned out quite well!

Here are some of my favorites:

Got a few of the proud big brother, as well!

Discovery.....

I have been thinking about the future lately and have maybe come up with a new plan. Those who know me, know that I change my mind frequently..... I am ALWAYS thinking and there are always a million ideas in my head. This idea, however, seems the most logical so far. Other ideas I have had would require more schooling, a ton of money, etc.

SO, stay tuned for more details once I get things figured out!

Any prayers, positive thoughts, and well wishes would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading!

"Return to Zero"

I am sharing this for a friend... which includes her story:

"I'm asking for help in getting the film "Return to Zero" out into theaters. It's central theme is stillbirth, a cause that's close to my heart. My daughter Emily was stillborn in January, 2010. She died one day after her due date, from a cord accident. Emily had danced and wiggled so much in the womb, her feet became tangled in the umbilical cord. It was locked so tightly around her ankles, it cut off her blood and oxygen supply. It was a terribly tragic event that has changed me and my family forever, and is much more common than the average person realizes or likes to believe. 1 in 130 babies are stillborn (pass away after 20 weeks gestation). Not all, but some of these deaths could be prevented, if only people were more aware of warning signs. That is one of the main reasons why it is so important to break the silence, and make talking about stillbirth less taboo than it is right now in society.

What I'm asking you to do is pledge ASAP. Pledging is FREE, and your pledge says that you support the movie, and would consider seeing it when it is released. It takes less than 30 seconds to put down your name, email, location, and local leader (put my name in that section please!). Also, please share this event with your friends and family, invite them to this event, or share about the movie pledge on your page. It's important to do this as soon as you can - the director of the movie has a meeting with Hollywood on Thursday, and another in a few weeks. He needs tons of pledges by then to prove to the powers that be that there is an audience for this movie. We know there is!"

chores, CHOOOOORES!!!

I am finally getting ready to put a "chore list" together so feel free to comment on this blog and add in things you NEED done around the house. I know the list is never ending but I thought maybe if I planned it all out and made a routine, it wouldn't be so daunting?

My plan was to do things like this:

Monday: Laundry Day (wash)
sweep/mop kitchen floor
vacuum upstairs
dishes

Tuesday:
Clean the bathrooms (sinks, tub, floors, mirrors)
Put laundry away
clean bedroom
dishes

Wednesday:
sweep/mop kitchen
dishes
mow the yard
vacuum upstairs

Thursday:
weed the garden/around the house
clean the office
dishes

Friday:
Clean Vera's room
sweep/mop kitchen
vacuum downstairs
sanitize toys
dishes

Saturday:
Misc.
dishes

Sunday: grocery shop
put groceries away
dishes

That's what I have for now. Everyone's tasks will be different as well as how often you prefer to do things. We only have 3 in our household so laundry only needs done once a week but I know a lot of people do it a lot more often. That's just one example..... Also, I have seen on pinterest how they did an organization by week/month that I thought might be cool to try. Maybe set up a specific thing to organize each week or month? For example, our closets/garage/pantry/and junk drawer all need organized at least once a month.. so maybe I can spread those out a little?

Anyways... this is just a start......

let me know your thoughts/further ideas!

(I forgot to say I make the beds daily as well as make sure the livingroom/diningroom/and kitchen are picked up.... so I didn't include them in my list but I do them daily so that it doesn't stack up later.

Thanks for reading!

Bed Sharing....

This is often a topic I see debated: bed sharing.  Some people call it "co-sleeping" but co-sleeping could also mean that the child just sleeps in the same room as the parent, in their own bed. We practiced "co-sleeping" for the first few months of Vera's life. She slept in our room, in a pack and play. On her back. NO stuffed animals/blankets/pillows.  We are dead set against bed sharing for safety reasons.  This is one parenting decision we will not budge on. To us, our daughter's safety is worth much more than the convenience of more sleep/easier access to breast feeding.

I often hear that "if done correctly, bed sharing can be just as safe." And while your child MAY survive this (I hear that excuse a lot), it's not recommended. I understand that there are studies everywhere and that nearly everything you do as a parent, can be debatable. However, I personally think the three most important parenting topics (again, this is my personal opinion)... are: bedsharing, breastfeeding, and feeding your infants cereal/solids before the age of 6 months.

For now, I will just stick with an article I just read on bedsharing because I will need a new page to talk about the others due to the amount of knowledge there is to learn.

Bed sharing substantially raises risk of SIDS

Sharing the bed with young children is a common practice among some parents, but new research suggests it could be putting kids at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The findings, published recently in BMJ Open, suggest that bed sharing raises the chances of SIDS regardless of other risk factors such as alcohol consumption or side effects from certain drugs.
To measure the risk of SIDS - when children less than 1 year old die from no obvious cause - researchers looked at more than 1,470 cases from the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia. They found that 88 percent of SIDS cases where infants were sharing a bed with their parents could have been prevented. Researchers believe this should make people re-think the safety of bed sharing.
"We do not suggest that babies should not be brought into the parent's bed for comfort and feeding," they wrote. "This has been investigated in previous studies and has not been found to be a risk factor, provided the infant is returned to his or her own cot for sleep."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SIDS is the leading cause of death among infants under 12 months old.

I found this article on the Once Upon a Child website and found it very interesting. This is only one of the VERY many articles I have read that have stated the same thing.

So please, PLEASE think about this before you take your infant (usually children 1 and under) into bed with you to catch more sleep or make it more convenient for breast feeding. I have a personal friend who has come in contact, through her job, with babies who have passed away due to bed sharing and no other reason. It's terribly sad and preventable, if you know the correct information.

I'm sure I will get a lot of differing opinions on this subject but I am literally stating facts.  ALL of my child developmental classes I took stated the same thing as well as the classes I must continue to take to keep my state license.
