In honor of MLK Jr day, as well as our president being inaugurated as well, I wanted to write a little about dreams.
Today, among many days, is a day to reflect on how far we have come as a country and how much further we need to go still. Although we have come a long way, there is so much room for improvement. I think we all know the things that still need to change in this country, so I will not waste a moment writing about what the country needs to do. Instead, I would like to focus on the things I need to do, to make this a better place to live.
I have a dream.....
To one day, change the world. I know several steps to take in order for me to make this place just a little better.
I would love for one day to be considered a role model. Someone for the young and even the older to look up to. I would love to be a positive influence in the lives of others. I want to live with a light spirit but a heart of gold. I want to be able to rid myself of negative thoughts and focus only on the positive. I realize the negative in life is good for the simple reason that you need it in order to see just how good life really is. I hope to one day encourage others to be better, to do better, to forgive. These are things I need to work on in myself, as well. I dream of the day I can encourage others to think positive, to laugh more, to enjoy their day knowing that tomorrow is never promised. I dream that I can make this world a better place, by just improving my own dreams and goals. I dream that one day, my family and I can all get along. That we will forgive each other for our mistakes and move on. That we can all live in peace together and show our children what family is supposed to be like. I dream that Brett and I can create a simple but meaningful life for our own daughter and show her that it's not always about what you can buy, but what you can create. I have a dream that one day, we will build our own, more eco-friendly home with our own garden to grow some of our own food. We have a little garden now but I dream for a bigger garden to feed our family the entire year, instead of just the summer. I dream that we will one day have our own animals to raise so we can limit animal cruelty. I dream to have our own cow, pig, coat, and chickens. I dream that one day we can open an animal shelter for dogs and cats. I dream that we can make our home more "green" with solar panels, wind mills, and whatever else we choose in the future. I dream that one day, I will influence others to recycle more, to look at their own daily choices and improve them for the future. To improve the environment that is declining. To make it better for our future generations. I dream that one day, starting today, that we would live healthier lives so we can be around for the improvements in this world of ours. I dream that one day we can travel to other countries and even continue discovering our own country and the beauty it beholds.
Most of all, I dream to be a better person. To touch people's lives. To change people's hearts and mind. I dream of making the world a better place by just being me.
I have a lot of goals in life, and always have. I know that some people may think I'm crazy, a little too out there, or a little too ambitious, but this life is so short. Why should we limit ourselves to what others think we are capable of achieving? Why should we give up our dreams just because others don't think it's possible? Had every inventor or great person in this world given up because of the thoughts of others, we would have nothing today. I like to dream big, to live big, to LOVE big. And that is what I will continue to do.
On this day, I challenge YOU to set a little time aside and DREAM BIG. What do YOU want out of life? What do YOU want most? Are you living today as if there might not be a tomorrow?
In the future, I would like to write about a few specific goals of mine because these are somewhat general. Feel free to share some of YOUR dreams in a comment! I would love to see them. Also, when you put your dreams and goals in writing and share them with others, they are much more likely to happen!
I want a few of the same things as u to help the environment w growing my own food, having a farm, and my biggest dream is to teach my children that we have to protect our world and not hurt it. I want to show them how to grow there own food and raise there own live stock and how to survive w out technology. I want to make sure if something ever happens they can survive w out all the finer things in life. They need to knw how to sew and make the things they absolutely need. Also i need to teach them how to grow and survive in todays world how to protect them selves from evil and how to help others and how to stand strong for what they believe in. I want them to know no one is perfect and everyone deserves forgiveness when someone is truly asking for it. And finally to do all this i need to make abetter life for us by finishing school and continuing to my future goals of school as to gojng to law school i want to help the world by helping protect children i would love to b a childs voice in law or both a lawyer for cps. I have a long road ahead and a lot to learn bt i need to stay focused! And do my best for my families future! These r my goals.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have dreams. I also love seeing the love you have for your family and the future of your family.
ReplyDeleteI want one thing. I want our family to be able to grow. As you know, our son is adopted. I don't really think about it a lot because it feels as if we had him ourselves. I can't imagine life without him and he is a perfect fit for our family. I want to be able to give him a sibling(s). I fear that I won't be able to do that. And I know there are far worse things in life but it's something that I long for. I pray everyday that there will be answers or a phone call saying there is another precious baby in need of a family to love them. Until that day comes, I will cherish every minute with my adorable son and wonderful husband. Waiting, wishing and praying for our dreams to come true.
My dream is to make a difference as well. As a survivor of domestic violence, I felt compelled to return to school to educate myself in an effort to be instrumental in changing the laws that do NOT work and in helping just ONE family have a different, better experience than mine had.
ReplyDeleteI think I have raised (and continue to raise) well-adjusted, educated, children who can think outside the box and consider all sides of a situation before making a decision. I hope that above all, I teach my children respect. Not just respect for others but respect for authority, respect for the property of others and most of all, respect for the privacy and right of everyone to be who they are and to say so. I have a son in law school and a daughter who is an RN, I also have two kids in school yet and one in elementary. I have learned from mistakes I made with my three older children and try to adjust my parenting style accordingly.
I admit when I'm wrong and apologize when I wound. I try to be more open minded than I was in my youth and strive to rise above the short-comings and limitations of my own upbringing. I have learned that words can hurt someone FOR EVER! and to pick and choose what I say carefully. I have also learned that my feelings matter but they no longer inspire me to cause someone else pain to prove that they matter. I haven't always done things right or made the right choices but I realize that it takes all kinds of people in life and I work on tolerance and often struggle with negativity, I choose to be positive and to see the good of the situation instead of only seeing the bad.
I pull for the underdog and support the down-trodden and/or unfairly treated. I no longer live my life with regard to what people think of me. We all want everyone to like and even to love us but at the end of the day, we must realize that we are who we are and we all do the best we can and that it's not up to us to decide if our neighbor is truly doing their best job, it's up to God and while we don't have to like what friends and family do and say, we can still love them.
I have come to realize that as we grow older our dreams change with the changes in our lives, the economy and even with the climate in our government and society. We must be able to bend without breaking and most of all we must stand for something or we are likely to fall for anything. My biggest peeve with society is that it will not stand up. It wants to complain about this president or that elected official or this or that law but NO ONE is willing to do something other than complain.
As I said, I've made mistakes but all I can do is apologize, learn the lesson, and move on. I have a lot of irons in the fire so to speak at this time in my life. I not only still have kids at home but I have 6 grand kids and 4 step grand kids and at last count had 15 Cocker Spaniels which I love and breed and sell only to those who will agree to NEVER send them to a shelter or pound but will contact me if they can no longer care for them. I'm big into natural healing and deal in healing stones and crystals and plan on taking healing energy classes given by my local NAET doctor. I will help anyone who needs help in any way that I can help. As I grow older, I find that "things" are not as important as they once were and that some parts of life are given way too much emphasis when we are young.
You are MY role model! Didn't you know that?? I look up to you and want to try to be HALF the wife and mother that you are.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for sharing! I loved reading them and see amazing things in the future. You all seem motivated, loving, and have clear goals in mind. That already, is amazing to me! Keep up the great work!
